Fixing Things and Finishing Projects
Well, I guess the most obvious project I have completed is finally finishing the set-up of my new blog! I have more control over this one than a xanga, so I think I’ll be more comfortable with it. (And post more? We’ll see!) Just to take a jab at Xanga…

Isn’t that cool?
The first project I finished is also the coolest, so I’ll tell you about it first so I don’t run out of steam!
Last semester when something in our bathroom needed working on, they sent two maintenance guys even though only one would fit in there. So, the second one was talking with us, and saw my Eagle Scout paperweight. (This thing is a replica of the Eagle ring, only sized for Goliath’s big toe! Everyone who comes into my room comments on it!) Well, it somehow reminded him of a ring his grandpa had made by tapping the edge of a silver dollar with a spoon until it was wide enough, then taking out the middle to make a ring. Wil and I thought this sounded cool, so we looked it up on Google. We found some good sites about how to do it (here and here, if you’re interested), and we got the stuff together to try it ourselves. I finally finished mine last week! Here are some pictures from start to finish:

I think that project turned out pretty nicely, don’t you?
The other things I’ve done lately that I meant to do were re-soldering my wifi can-tenna so that I can get wireless signal in my room when the hall router goes down (such as it is as I type), and buying a new battery backup for my computer here at school so that it would quit going down at every little power fluxuation. I found a coupon for belkin.com at DealNews so I used it to buy one of their UPS units. It arrived yesterday, and not only does it seem to work marvelously, the included software designed to shut down your computer when the battery gets low runs not only on Windows, but on Mac, Linux, FreeBSD, Solaris… and even more! I must say, that made me very impressed with Belkin! I suppose some people would complain because it’s not open source, but I’m quite happy that they acknowledged the existence of non-Windows platforms!
Well, I guess that’s about it for now. I’m hoping to post on a weekly basis now that WordPress is set up. It’s a whole lot more fun to use than Xanga!
